Carol Ann

C-606: Epilepsy and Mental Retardation

Carol Ann was 8 years old when admitted to the Center. A medical history of birth trauma, in addition to a delayed motor development, was noted.

At age 4 a second tragedy occurred in this young girl's life. She and her grandmother were in a severe automobile accident. Carol Ann's grandmother, whom she loved very much, died. As a result of the accident, Carol Ann sustained injuries that resulted in a medical diagnosis of epilepsy and mental retardation.

Chiropractic Analysis revealed a severe spinal scoliosis and a malformation of atlas and axis.

Neurological Organization Evaluation indicated the level of function at mid-brain and early cortex level.

Trace Mineral Analysis revealed severe reduced levels in 8 essential minerals suggesting malabsorption.

Psychological Evaluation indicated a mental 3 years 9 months along with evidence of brain damage.

Optometric Exam revealed visual acuity unaided 20/70 to 20/80 with a severe perceptual disorder.

Within months of chiropractic care, cross pattern exercises, supplements, special education classes, glasses and visual therapy, Carol Ann's entry complaints were ameliorated.

"After several years at Kentuckiana, Carol Ann, my daughter, could definitely enjoy life even though she would never be completely normal. Carol Ann lives with my mother in North Carolina and they enjoy life thoroughly. Carol Ann has never been institutionalized.

Mayor Charles Black   (Morgantown, KY)
